Writing for QUALITY, not Quantity

How to get Visitor Loyalty on Your Blog

I will always say this. Write with quality and write often on your WordPress sites.

There are a few reasons for this.

(1) You will become much better at writing the more often you write.
(2) You will have much more opportunity to get ranked within Search Engines
(3) Visitor Loyalty

If your blog is regularly updated, you will get people coming back to visit your blog all the time. This is what you want as a site owner as it will give you multiple opportunities to leverage the same traffic to earn revenue from your site.

Many people approach writing on their blogs in the wrong way .  People tend to think “keywords” instead of thinking value.  I know, there is one common goal with a blog and that is to get traffic, but sometimes focusing to heavily on the keywords within your articles can sacrifice your own ingenuity…and ultimately, make your blog content much less intriguing.

Interesting sites yield a much more powerful Word of Mouth advertising.  This is an added benefit of writing “from the hip” as I like to call it.  Write as though you were speaking to someone rather than following a precise content agenda. If you write an intriguing article, people will share it with their friends. Sometimes, they will even contact their mailing lists (10,000′s) of people letting them them know about your blog post. This DOES happen!

So, when writing your blog posts, make them interesting.  Write regularly and be real with your visitors.  They will reward you by visiting your site over and over again, recommending your site to others, and in some cases, even sending out a mass mailout to their subscriber lists to let them know about your “great” content.

Write with intrigue. Captivate the audience. Get repeat visitors!

Easy ways to SEO your WordPress Blog

Many people overlook some of the core assests of WordPress…

THE PLUGINS!

Some of us use lots of them, some of us have our favorites, and some of use really don’t know what the heck a plug-ins is.  However, if you are not utilizing the set of SEO based plug-ins within your WordPress blog, then you need to start.

First off, my favorite and it happens to be installed with every WordPress Express blog.  It is the All in One SEO Pack, which is the first SEO plugin that I install on every WP blog that I own.

All in One SEO Pack is really cool because it “primes” your site to be good at SEO.  Many people have trouble naming their pages correctly, setting up their folder extensions, name meta tags, working with tags, working with page titles….but this plug-in does it all for you.

Here are just a few features of this plugin:

  • Fine tune your navigational links
  • Built in API…meaning other WordPress plugins can extend the functionality
  • Automatically optimizes the Title tags for search engines (very important)
  • Auto-generates your pages META tags
  • Avoids duplicate content (an SEO no no)
  • Full control of your meta description and meta keywords

OK…so that tool is cool right.

But here is the really cool part.  In less than a couple of days writing content on my blog, I can get prime listings within Google. No back-links, no extra work required.  Yes, back-links will definitely help…but stand-alone, out of the box, my WordPress blog is already getting listed in Google…and already getting some VERY TARGETED traffic, SEO STYLE!!!

So, utilizing a plugin like All in One SEO is probably the very easiest way to get your WordPress Express blogs up and running in terms of SEO…but as we continue this journey, I will be outlining some more advanced techniques and case studies to improve your SEO!

Putting a YouTube Video On Your WordPress Blog

Many of you probably are wondering how to embed a YouTube video on your WordPress Blog.  There are millions of YouTube video’s that are freely available for you to add to your blog, many are informational and helpful videos, some are funny, some are smart, some are just plain weird.

You may even own some YouTube videos that you would like to “showcase” on your blog. Whatever the case, I am going to show you how to do this with a little video I found on believe it or not…YOUTUBE! Imagine that.

The video below explains putting a YouTube video on your WordPress blog in a very simple way.

I found this video very helpful…in fact you can use it to add a video to your WordPress blog.    Before I leave you today, I want to give you some REAL benefits to adding videos to your WordPress sites:

Benefit #1: People love to watch videos. Entertain people and they will invest their #1 commodity to you…TIME.  People also like to send their friends things that are helpful, informative, interesting, weird, funny, and sexy.

Benefit #2: You can help people. When you help people, you help your personal brand.  The more back scratching you do, the more you will receive in return.  There are great financial rewards to helping people.

Benefit #3: Save you time. Which in turns will save you money.  You can leverage other people’s videos to save you time, yet still offer some very powerful content.

Look at the page I have created here…you don’t hate me for offering the information to you.  I deliver what I say I am going to…and you have become more education and powerful because of it.

I saved myself time (by not having to create the video), and I saved you time by you not having to fumble through the video embedding process.

Now go out and put some YouTube videos on your WordPress Express site!

How to get content in Google?

A big question many people have:

“How the heck do I get my content listed in Google?”.

For example, how did I get my site listed #1 out of millions for the word “crafty content” within Google in under 2 days.

Crafty Content Gets Ranked #1

There are many benefits to getting content listed in Google…many of them financial, but for some people it is just a personal achievement.

For example, if this blog post content gets listed in Google, and someone does a search for “how to get my content in Google”…my site will get listed.  That is pretty cool.

But what is the point?

Well, for one I have just acquired a visitor.  A visitor is web traffic.  And traffic is the most sought after resource online.  Think of it like OIL or GOLD of the Internet world.  If you can get your content listed, you get traffic, and you have the opportunity to leverage this traffic into some nice, crisp Benjamin Franklins.

How do most people get traffic from getting their blog content listed in Google?

There really are a number of ways that you can accomplish this, but the main ways are:

(1) Search Engine Optimization – this is where people write content relevant to specific subjects and keyword phrases.  It also involves things like getting one way back-links to your website through other relevant websites, and creating content on a regular basis.  If Google sees that other sites are linking to yours, they will definitely get your content into their search engines quicker.

(2) Article Marketing – many people leverage article directories like ezinearticles.com, articlesbase.com, associatedcontent.com, squidoo.com and many others to drive traffic to their blog.  Basically how it works is that you submit relevant articles to these directories and they get picked-up in Google (SEO style).  People read your article and at the end, you drop a link to your blog, and they click-through.  Many of these directories offer “do follow” links which mean each link you drop within the article will count as a one way link…thus boosting your Page Rank in Google.

These are the two mains ways to get your content in Google.

I recommend doing a hybrid of both to get the best results.  Aim to write and submit 3-5 articles per week…and aim to write and post at least 3 blog posts per week.  And lastly, work on getting one way back-links.  You can do this using one of the services out there, using social bookmarking sites, or you can leverage existing blogs comments area (where permitted) or wide open forums that are relevant to your site.

To love or hate ellipsis?

Before I go on my rant here…if you don’t know what an ellipsis, I want to explain that.

That is an ellipsis.  I already used one in the first sentence…oh, and there is another.

The question many people new to this wonder, are they effective and why would you use them.  You are not taught to write these in English 101.  In fact, they are frowned upon.

So why would people be so cool wit’ it in the online world.

Well, first off…it is only cool some of the times.  If you are writing a technical document, or you have an enterprise site like Microsoft, you may want to hold off.  Same with formal, dry, and boring training.  You may want to keep it dry and boring by writing it at a grade 12 level.

But, writing with ellipsis works great on blogs, in emails, or when you are just getting personal with people.  The reason is that people “text” like this.  People type like this in their little instant messaging window.  And people write their friends on facebook like this.

Did you notice one catch word in the last sentence…FRIENDS.

Friends write like this to each other.  So when you type an email and send it out to your list, or you write a blog post about writing with ellipsis to random people all over the world, they are cool wit’ it.  They view it more as a friend, more personal, and often times react to it in a more proactive way.

Worst case scenario…they will not get bored and close the window.  Writing like a friend will lead to longer “Time on Page”…which equates to more content read…which typically leads to more conversions (and $$$).
